I read in a novel about a ballet student once, that she had to avoid sitting on the floor with her legs crossed. Apparently it ruined her turn out.
Is there any truth in that?

I suppose it depends on the position.
And maybe spending long time in a strange position can damage your hips thus influence your turn out.
