Choreographer and dancer Tommi Kitti is one of Finland’s leading contemporary dance artists. In a career spanning three decades, he has danced with, among others, the Cullberg Ballet, the Helsinki City Theatre, Raatikko Dance Company and the Finnish National Ballet. As choreographer, he has created over 40 works both in Finland and abroad.
Tommi Kitti has been granted the highest artists’ awards in Finland, including the Finnish National Arts Award in 2000 and the Pro Finlandia medal in 2003.
"Kitti and five fellow dancers possess qualities far beyond mere athletic grace. They know the precarious balances between relaxation and tension, kinetic clarity and emotional complexity, pain and comfort...the piece left me wanting more in the best sense.” -Donald Hutera, Dance Europe, October 2003
Tommi Kitti & Co. was founded in 2000. The repertoire of the company consists of both evening-length and shorter ensemble works as well as Tommi Kitti’s solos. The company premieres an average of two new productions each year, having performed at all major Finnish dance festivals and many significant international stages over the last few years.
The company’s virtuosity and intimate, human relationship to dance have firmly established Tommi Kitti & Co. at the forefront of Finnish and international contemporary dance.
”Satu Halttunen, Virpi Juntti, Valtteri Raekallio, Mammu Rankanen, Inka Tiitinen and the latest member of the company, Eero Vesterinen, dance as one person. The uniformity of movement quality in this highly developed ensemble is nothing short of astonishing. Though each dancer has his or her own personality, they have assimilated the subtle nuances of Kitti's movement style and choreography to an amazing degree."
