Reshaping neo-classicism
I would describe myself as a choreographer who mixes neo-classical traditions with the influences I have accumulated during my life and career. These influences include dance, art (classical and modern), new media, historical periods and their ideals, mythology, literature, architecture as well as sculptural form.
This creates a ‘cloud’ of creation that enables me to develop a very personal form of dance within the classical form, continually pushing the boundaries of recognised dance/theatre conventions.
I like to work with creative people who give me feedback and challenge my work – people who want to explore and don’t just want to be told what to do.
Similarly, I would like audiences to approach my work with open- and liberal-minded spirit. I believe the end product can be witnessed as a dynamic painting of movement that allows for a number of individual interpretations, all different but heading in the same ground breaking direction.
Music fascinates and inspires me. It is integral to my all work and I always search for music that has a strong identity and distinctive themes. As such, I collaborate closely with composers when they write music for my work.

The Dutch Dance Gala is celebrating in Maastricht the wealth of dance in the Netherlands with nine nominees for the coveted ‘Zwanen’ award. The programme also includes a selection of works from young upcoming choreographers in the Netherlands. I'm very proud Minos pas de deux has been chosen for such an important event. This time will be performed by Laura O'Malley and Jozef Varga (Dutch National Ballet)
Saturday 8 October 20.15u > Theater aan het Vrijthof > Maastricht
Juanjo Arques is working on a new creation for the Dutch National Ballet. Arque's concept behind this piece reflects a metaphysical theme of the changing relationships between man and nature in the modern world.

20th August 2011 > Lowlands Festival
Minos will be shown Today in the Lowlands Festival around 18.45.
Due to an emergency yesterday > Laura O'Malley will be replacing Jurgita Dronina for this performance. She just learned the pas de deux yesterday and I must say she is looking beautiful. Besides her amazing physical lines she is technically perfect for this role. Laura just rejoined the Dutch National Ballet this season after being with Stuttgart Ballet where she became a soloist. She will be partnered by the principal dancer Jozef Varga who is still standing as a rock on the cast list.
Looking forward to see them dancing my piece today in such an important event as Lowlands Festival.
Toi toi and I see you all there!
